The stylish city of Aix-en-Provence is blessed with a wonderful sunny Provençal climate, making its streets and squares vibrant and full of life.History is the backdrop to everyday life here: the grace and splendour of Baroque architecture surround you as you stroll through the streets. Beautiful ‘AIXperiences’ guaranteed!

Let the locals be your guide

No one knows a city better than the people who live there. Official guided tours are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10 am all year round, exploring the charming towns and beautiful architecture and monuments. From April to October, one tour per day at 10am.

Calissons: indulge yourself

The calisson sweet is a tradition and craft are taken so seriously by local confectioners that every year since 1995 the ‘calissons blessing ceremony’ is held in the St Jean de Malte church. (Well worth attending!)

Feel Cézanne's intensity

Connect to the city’s local post-impressionist artist with a Cézanne tour of Aix. Explore the house where he began painting, with a walk around the grounds and the family property of Jas de Bouffan. You can also see some of his works in the Granet Museum’s dedicated exhibition space.

Take a break on the Cours Mirabeau

Once a street for horse-drawn carriages, the Cours Mirabeau is now one of the liveliest areas in the city, with cafés to set sun-drenched terraces.  Steeped in history it’s the perfect place to get a taste of the city.

Experience the sensations of a market

Markets are a daily occurrence in Aix; from fruit and vegetables to antiquarian books or the flower markets, filling the city with sound and colour.

A haven of peace

Not far from the bustle of the city centre is the Vendôme Pavilion, one of the remaining ‘follies’ from the 17th century. A place of peace and beauty, it reflects the fine living of days gone by.

Enjoy the city's night-life

The mild climate of Aix-en-Provence makes it a great place for night-life. It boasts a casino, three cinemas, night clubs, bars and pubs, not to mention concert halls and theatres; night-owls won't be disappointed!
