Pont du Gard - World heritage: 2000 years of history

The Pont du Gard (AD 50) is the tallest Roman bridge-aqueduct in the world (48 meters, or ~148 feet). Designed to convey water to Nîmes 2000 years ago, it demonstrates the extraordinary know-how of Roman engineers. In remarkably good condition, and on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the monument stands in a natural setting of 165 hectares (+400 acres) of Mediterranean landscape. Travelers from all over the world have come to admire this jewel of Roman civilization. You will even find the monument on the 5 euro note!

The site, located between Nîmes, Arles and Avignon, provides visitors the opportunity to learn about the roman civilization with the museum (2,500 m², or ~25,000 ft², organized around reproductions and multimedia kiosks), and Ludo. Located in front of the Pont du Gard, the Restaurant "Les Terrasses", with its Mediterranean cuisine, is open year around.

Beginning January 1st, 2012, the Pont du Gard site now offers a new group fee system: a per-person entry fee will be applied and will include access to the discovery areas, UNESCO World Heritage Site Aqueduct, and the bus parking area.

The site is open all year round.
