Opera, Symphonic and classical music in Aix-en-Provence

Every summer since 1948, the Festival International d'Art Lyrique, one of Europe's largest poetry festivals has been held in Aix-en-Provence. Operas, classical concerts and other performances are held at several places in the open air, including Théâtre de l'Archeveche and la Cathédrale Saint-Sauveur.

Through its European Academy of Music, the festival devotes part of its activities to the professional development of young artists from around the world and allows them to perform at the concert and opera productions in the festival's unique setting.

The Belgian organist, composer and opera director Bernard FOCCROULLE has since 2007 been the director of the Aix-en-Provence Festival. He is naturally associated with the Baroque repertoire as well as modern art and is particularly committed to continue the process of transforming opera into a lively encounter.
