Learn to cook like a Chef with Marjorie and Kendall!
It's time to learn with Marjorie Taylor and her daughter Kendall all about proper French cuisine and enjoy the local markets in their company.
They will be delighted to welcome you to Beaune to "The Cook's Atelier" to share with you their common passion for the Beaune region. These two American expatriates fell in love with France and, in particular, Beaune.
Marjorie ran a small restaurant and cooking school in Phoenix, Arizona while her daughter Kendall moved to France, a country she loves so much, early on in life.
Passionate about art history which she studied and French culture, she found Beaune to be a place that’s perfectly suited to her passion, and began studying viticulture. That’s when Marjorie came to join her in this new country to combine their enthusiasm for fine cuisine and wine.
They decided to open an establishment that combines fine local food, wine and culture.
"The Cook's Atelier" has a cookery school on the first floor, as well as a wine shop on the ground floor. The latter sells wines from small producers, wines from other regions, as well as from Italy and Germany. You can also buy equipment and kitchen products for creating meals in the workshop. Their added value is that they are all 100% local, meaning that whatever their area of origin, they’re made on site by craftsmen in their workshops. This philosophy of bringing out the best in a region is ever present in "The Cook's Atelier".
You will be charmed by this old Beaune house with its decoration combining modern with vintage.
Bathed in shafts of natural light flooding in through a magnificent glass roof, your cookery workshop takes place in a bright and friendly environment. The Cook's Atelier team had the brilliant idea of marrying antique furniture with metal materials for a loft style that’s very trendy.
Enjoy the very best in local produce by opting for a tasty cookery class
Several types of cookery classes are on offer:
The most popular package, "Market Tour and Cooking Class", offers total immersion in Beaune’s markets through regional products. This day at "The
Cook's Atelier" includes a visit to the local market to interact with and learn about the farmers and local products. "The Cook's Atelier" chef makes a special point of discovering and using locally sourced, fresh seasonal products. The connection between chef and farmer is stronger than ever, bringing an almost social dimension to the day’s cooking. There follows a cookery class that introduces you to the process of creating a lunch that will be accompanied by the most appropriate wines. You need to really get stuck in if you want to make the most of the technical advice, wise words and generosity of your hosts.
While Marjorie serves up her cookery tips, her daughter Kendall will tell you all about the wines to be served with the meal. The friendly atmosphere will fill you with such joy, you’ll probably forget you’re a guest of their establishment.
"Seasonal Suppers" is a package that’s like a gourmet experience in the form of a lunch or dinner for small groups. The meal is preceded by a cookery class that will spark your interest in the various products and culinary techniques. In addition, it’s an opportunity to highlight the work of a particular artisan/producer or winemaker from the area.
Finally, "A Cook's Workshop" gives budding chefs the opportunity to acquire specific competencies and cooking techniques. This course will satisfy your desire to learn more about the requirements of French gastronomy. A return on the basics of cooking is what’s on the menu.
