Situated between sea and forest on the Var coast, Six-Fours-les-Plages is both a traditional Provençal village and a renowned tourist resort. Explore the unspoilt forest at Cap Sicié by following the cycling, walking and horse-riding trails, admiring typical Mediterranean trees such as Aleppo pines and cork oaks. Those keen on watersports can try scuba diving, sea kayaking, fun-boarding, kite-surfing and stand-up paddling from Six-Fours’ wide Bonnegrâce beach. Wine lovers should make a trip to nearby Bandol and its wine estates; and the fishing village of Sanary-sur-Mer, whose narrow streets are lined with charming shops, is another must-see. Six-Fours’ major annual events include April’s Printemps des Saveurs, when gourmet menus pop up in restaurants across town; national offshore championship Race Nautic Tour in May; and the Voix de la Collegiale and Voix du Gaou music festivals in July.

One of Six-Fours’ loveliest draws is the Embiez archipelago; made up of the islands of Embiez, Gaou, Petit and Grand Rouveau and the Magnons islets, you’ll be bowled over by the breathtaking scenery here and it’s the perfect place to escape and take a break from the rest of the world. The archipelago is an internationally recognised destination for yachtsmen, divers and sea lovers, also known for its Oceanographic Institute and aquarium. Picnic on the beaches or in the coves, rejuvenate at a health spa, try a plethora of nautical activities, enjoy a bike ride or hop on the island’s little train. Embiez can be reached all year round by water shuttle from Le Brusc in just 12 minutes.
